New Member Program
In Delta Gamma we cherish our founders' ideals and bond of secrecy. After the hustle and bustle of recruitment week and fun-tivities of bid day, Delta Gamma requires new members to attend weekly one-hour meetings with our Director of New Members and Vice President of Member Education. These meetings run for eight weeks, beginning during the first week of school and ending with Initiation. During this time our new members learn the history of how our fraternity was established and the values our founders put in place. We continue those same values to keep our three founders' legacies alive. The new members will benefit from these classes by gaining knowledge of our fraternity and the ideals we are expected to uphold as members. In addition, these meetings offer them countless opportunities to make friends and get to know the other members, give them access to resources that will aid in schooling and adjusting to the college experience, and instill in them a sense of responsibility that will encourage them to do their best in every aspect of character.
In addition to weekly meetings, new members will also have numerous opportunities to get to know their sisters. Beginning on Bid Day, they will have a new "Anchor Buddy" each week from the sophomore pledge class. Their Anchor Buddy will participate in various activities with the new members, anything from touring campus to getting ice cream downtown together. The new members will also have a New Member Retreat, during which they will be able to spend the day together, having fun and getting to know each other even further. Past activities have included bonfires, board games, making s'mores, and watching Husker football games together! Prior to Initiation our new members receive their "Bigs" from the sophomore pledge class and are welcomed into a DG family at our Big/Little Reveal. Our DG families are very special, as these become the women to whom our new members go for help, advice, coffee dates, laughs, love, and countless memories. After the eight weeks of our New Member Program, we welcome our new members into our bonds of sisterhood at Initiation. On the night of Initiation, all of our members spend the night at the DG house, watching movies, having dance parties, and spending time together. This truly is a night our new members will always remember. Throughout the first year in Delta Gamma, our new members will make lifelong friends and countless memories, and our New Member Program will help them adjust to both college and being in a sorority. We cannot wait to welcome our newest pledge class on bid day in August! |
